A number of Somali war refugee families have resettled in our community. The adults want to learn English so that they can adjust to our country and obtain employment. The children and young adults of course, need to learn English in order to survive in school. As a supplement to local ESL (English as a Second Language) classes, Abdulaziz Ahmed (Somali translator) and the CDN decided to assemble and print a number of "translation lists". After doing this work, it was a fairly simple task to place this information here on the internet so that others in the world may benefit from this work.

In addition to these translation lists, we also wrote a little "generic" program that can be used as an aid to learn any subject. We are starting to use this program locally to help the Somali folks learn English. If you want a copy of this program, send us an e-mail. It is written in BASIC and will run on any Intel-based PC (286 or newer). It is free, one of the CDN's contributions to the world.
Another resource on the internet to help Somali people learn English can be found at http://www.fortunecity.com/bally/durrus/153/somindex.html (It is truly incredible)
